Ministries

Continue to pray and worship together (Christian Community)

Lead Committees

  • Worship (Chalice Bearers, Lay Readers, Lay Eucharistic Visitors, Acolytes, Ushers, Music/Choirs, Altar Guild, Flower Guild)

  • Administration (Finance, Treasurer, Staff)

  • Facilities (Buildings and Grounds, Organ Committee)

Priorities

  • Make the facilities beautiful, safe, secure, well-maintained, affordable and visible

    • Make entrances more inviting (Facilities/Building)

    • Replace double glass doors in all existing locations (Facilities/Building)

    • Install insulation panels in church that have fallen (Facilities/Building)

    • Replace light fixtures in Carmichael Hall and paint ceiling (Facilities/Building)

    • Do something about sound (Facilities/Building)

    • Organ and instrument repair and maintenance, especially console (Dr. Eppink)

    • Review sacristy for function and effectiveness (Altar Guild/Building)

    • Decorate classrooms to make them more welcoming (Youth Ministry)

    • Get rid of old and potentially dangerous furniture in classrooms (Youth Ministry)

  • Invigorate Lay Eucharistic Visitors and increase participation

    • Reinstitute Lay Eucharistic Visitors (Rector, Fall 2006)

  • Make prayer and worship more family-friendly

    • Continue Children's Chapel-Liturgy of Word for preschoolers and primary age children (Youth Ministry)

    • Make materials available to help children during worship time (Youth Ministry)

    • Hire a college-aged student to run the nursery during the 10:30 a.m. service (Youth Ministry)



Proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ (Personal Discipleship)

    • Review all aspects of St. Andrew's to ensure that all feel welcome and are fully incorporated into the life of the parish (Welcoming)

    • Via Media Course offered (Adult Education, Winter/Spring 2007)

    • Gift assessment and ministry formation/leadership development (Stewardship/Welcoming)

    • Organize a church school open house to be held during parish picnic (Youth Ministry)

    • Hold summer meetings with teachers to set curriculum and conduct teacher training (Youth Ministry)

    • Contact families with children (Youth Ministry/Welcoming)

    • Sunday morning instruction for parishioners K-12 (Youth Ministry/Adult Education/Welcoming)

    • Confirmation Classes for parishioners 16 years and older (Youth Ministry/Adult Education/Welcoming)

    • Put out materials throughout building (all entrances and Shop) to invite people to parish events and Worship (Welcoming/Rector/Jean G)

  • Increase Christian evangelization/formation/education and faith-based social activities with new projects for adults, young people and families with children

    • Disciple Bible Study on Sundays (Adult Education/Andy G, 2006-2007)

    • Bonhoeffer Course (Adult Education/Fr. Ron, Fall 2006)

    • Men's Bible Study (Adult Education/David W, Thursdays, 6:30 a.m.)

    • Reach out to other parishes; combine youth ministry efforts; gifts and calling discernment for youth (Martha)

    • Children's outreach projects: Heifer Project, Souper Bowl, etc. (Youth Ministry)

    • Work with other churches to establish a deanery teen group (Youth Ministry)

  • Better integrate vestry and committees to lead a unified community of disciples

    • Monthly review of goals and programs (Vestry)

    • Regular communication with ministry leaders and committee heads (Vestry)

    • Continue Extra Helpings (Outreach)

    • Increased involvement with the Capital Area Council of Churches (Outreach)
