Summer's Over - Regular Service Schedule Resumes Next Week
Yesterday
was the last Sunday of summer - beginning next week our Sunday services
will again be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The Tuesday
evening service, which has been Evening Prayer during the summer, will
again be Holy Eucharist.
St. Andrew's Shirt Day
On
Sept 12th at our Parish Picnic we will also observe St Andrew's Shirt
Day by wearing our St Andrew's shirts to the Church Service and Picnic.
Another good reason for wearing your St Andrew's shirt on that day is
that we are planning a group photo of everyone. The Outreach committee
has a large supply of shirts (polos and tees for children) if you need
to get a shirt for the occasion.
Altar Guild Meeting
The
Altar Guild will have a meeting followed by polishing
and cleaning on Saturday, September 11th starting at 9:30 am. You
are cordially invited!
Introducing Andrew Douglas
There's
a new face in the Parish Office! Andrew Douglas has joined our staff to
work as Parish Administrator. Mark Diebel resigned last month to spend
more time working on his dissertation and we were lucky to have Andrew
join us to take Mark's place.
Andrew
is a graduate of Simon Fraser University in Vancouver BC. He has a
degree in Fine Arts - specifically in playing the bagpipes! Andrew runs
"The Pipers Dojo", a school for bagpipers here in the Capital District.
He plans to be married this October at St. Andrew's. Stop by the
Office soon and say 'hello'.
Nametag Sunday
Mark
your calendars now for Nametag Sunday! As we kick off a new fall season
we want everyone to wear their nametags, Sunday September 19th. Don't
have a name tag? Not a problem - members of the Greeters Committee
will be available to make a name tag for you! And in honor of
Nametag Sunday, we are planning a special coffee hour geared around food
with 'proper' names. We are looking for parishioners to contribute a
food item that is named after someone, such as Quiche Lorraine, Peach
Melba or Apple Brown Betty. If you can't think of something, feel
free to bring one of your own creations and name it after
yourself!!! A sign up sheet will be posted in Carmichael Hall
beginning this Sunday. Any questions? Contact Chris Lillpopp
Congratulations Newlyweds!
Brian
and Susan Klim are pleased to annouce the marriage of their daughter
Courtney Klim to Joseph John Mazzone III on August 21. We ask for your
prayers as they begin their married life together.
Madison Ave Traffic Proposal
Madison
Avenue with its four traffic lanes is a dangerous road design. Sixteen
neighborhood groups (including St. Andrew's) and businesses support the
reduction of four lanes to three lanes, including a center turn lane.
This "road diet" promises the following benefits: safety, growth of
local businesses, reduced pollution, improved access for emergency
response vehicles, increase in public transit riders, less wear on
streets, increased property values. However, in order to make this
change, the city needs to invest $95,000 for a traffic study. Common
Council wants this. If you agree, please show up at City
Hall Wednesday evening at 6 pm to show your support.
Welcome Baby!
Congratulations
to Bob and Jan Whitaker who have a new grandchild! Leah Summer Henen
was born August 22nd. Bob and Jan plan to join baby Leah and her
parents, Carrie and Cliff, in Seattle soon.
