Last Call for School Supplies
Sunday
August 22nd is the last day to bring in school supplies for the FOCUS
on Schools project. A list of needed items can be found here -
donations of money are also welcome, simply drop a check into the
offering plate with "FOCUS - school supplies" on the memo line. Many
thanks go out to Lisa Walker who coordinates this project for St.
Andrew's each year.
Voices from the Past
Over the summer the parish has been blessed with visitors and
information which remind us of St. Andrew's rich history. In July
Robert Hackwell and his wife came to visit. Mr. Hackwell's father, the
Rev. Lloyd Hackwell, was Rector at St. Andrew's from 1946 until
1954. Mr. Hackwell had last been at St. Andrew's when he was a child
and was glad to have a chance to see the church again.
We also received new information about Captain Richard Selkirk, one
of the soldiers on the parish Honor Roll. Mr. Arthur McGlamery, son
of Captain Selkirk's fiancée, contacted us with information and
photographs. A new picture of Captain Selkirk, taken from
Mr. McGlamery's contribution, is now on the parish website profile of
Captain Selkirk.
Lastly we heard from Mr. Don Webster, nephew of former organist and
choir director Earle Kempton. Mr. Webster was hoping to get pictures
of the stained glass window in the Chapel which is dedicated to the
memory of Mr. Kempton's mother- and sister-in-law. We were able to
provide him with a picture of the window and to connect him with Bob
Leslie, who sang in the choir under Mr. Kempton's direction in the
1940's.
Thank you Love Thy Neighborhood Volunteers!
Thanks
to everyone who made the Love Thy Neighborhood Dinners such a success
this year. Whether you were able to come once or twice over the year, or
were one of our regulars helping each month, I appreciate your
willingness to extend Christ's love into our neighborhood. Some came to
set up, others to serve the meal, and others to help clean up. Most
importantly, many came to have a meal with our neighbors, chat with
those who seemed alone, and add some cheer to the lives of many. I look
forward to starting the fourth year of this ministry in September.
SHIRT Day!
On
Sept 12th at our Parish Picnic we will also observe St Andrew's Shirt
Day by wearing our St Andrew's shirts to the Church Service and Picnic.
Another good reason for wearing your St Andrew's shirt on that day is
that we are planning a group photo of everyone. The Outreach committee
has a large supply of shirts (polos and tees for children) if you need
to get a shirt for the occasion. Shirts will be available during coffee
hour after Sunday services. You can obtain them from any Outreach
committee member or call Lee Cameron at 489-2487
Thank you Dottie!
Once
again we would like to thank Dottie Johnson for playing the organ for
us this past Sunday and again for the Sunday coming up. "Praise
God with strings and pipe!"
Pie Sunday Thank Yous
Thanks
to everyone who participated in our Pie Sunday festivities. A
special thank you also to Steve Iannacone and Lucille Lanpher who helped
make Pie Sunday possibe.
Congratulations Claudia!
Congratulations
to Claudia Meyer who passed a tough exam last week to become a board
certified chaplain! Claudia works at Albany Medical Center helping
patients and their families deal with the challenges of illness and
hospitalization.
