Hat Sunday!!!
This Sunday St.
Andrew's goes SARATOGA at our annual celebration of hats. So get ready
and wear your best bonnet and maybe win a prize. Hope to see
everyone there looking their finest.
New in the Gerber Library
Looking for some
summer reading? We have some new books in the Gerber Library that
my be just the thing! Two new overviews of religion have come in -
"Religions A to Z" by James A. Beverly and "Christian Churches in the
United States from 1800 to the Present" by Martin E. Marty both contain
lots of interesting information. We also have three new books
about iconography - "Christ All Merciful" by Megan McKenna, "Sacred
Doorways" by Linette Martin and "The Meaning of Icons" by Leonid
Ouspensky and Vladimir Lossky. Looking for something a little
lighter? We have a selection of fiction works too! Please
remember to sign-out any books you borrow on the sign-out sheets located
in the notebook on the low bookcase. Happy reading!
Pastoral Care at St. Andrews
One of the greatest
gifts of this parish is the willingness of the people in our
congregation to help others. We are in the process of formalizing
our Pastoral Care program. In order to do this we need to have a
list of people who are willing to help and what they are willing to help
with. The tasks vary and can range from visiting,
making/delivering a meal, cleaning or driving a person to a doctor's
appointment. If you are interested in helping in this way please
contact the parish office or talk with me (Susan Anderson) after church.
(If the name doesn't ring a bell - perhaps Choir Susan will).
Thank you!
A big thanks goes out
to Dottie Johnson who played the organ
beautifully at the 10 a.m. services the last two Sundays.
Island Church - 130th Anniversary
Raquette Lake, NY - On
Sunday August 1st, 3 p.m., visitors are invited to come to St. Hubert's
Isle by canoe, guide boat and rowboat as they did more than a century
ago. The occasion is the 130th anniversary of the summer chapel.
There will be FREE water taxi service from the Raquette Lake Dock
beginning at 2 p.m. (courtesy of Burke's Marina.) The Episcopal
Church of the Good Shepherd was built by William West Durant in 1880 on
St. Hubert's Isle. In addition to St. William's (1890) across the
bay on Long Point, Good Shepherd was built to serve the owners, guest
and employees of the Great Camps - Sagamore, Pine Knot, Uncas and Kill
Kare, all constructed by Durant. The first treasurer of the summer
chapel was John Boyd Thatcher, future mayor of Albany. The warden
was William West Durant. In 1959 the Revd Ralph Carmichael
revived the annual service which had been discontinued during WWII.
The preacher will be the Revd Nancy Rosenblum from Albany.
After the service refreshments will be served on the rectory
porch. All are welcome. For further information please call
315-354-4267 or visit our website, here.
Dear Members of St. Andrew's Choir
Thank you for
allowing me to be part of your Choir Sunday and lead you in "Restless is
the Heart." You were all very welcoming, so much so that I felt
as if I was [at] my home church choir. My family felt very
welcomed by your greeters and members. My husband said if we were
seeking a new church home, he would definitely have come back to St.
Andrew's. Thank you all, again! Sara Apperly
