Love Thy Neighborhood Dinner
"In
like a lion, out like a lamb" is the theme for this month's community
dinner, which takes place Thursday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to help with set up, serving and welcoming guests,
and clean up. Join the fun!
Do you know someone who needs
Health Insurance?
Then you may want
to see Ted Porpeglia who will be available at the next Love Thy
Neighborhood Dinner to talk. Here is what he writes about his work: I am
a Facilitated Enroller, working with Fidelis Care (it is owned by NYS
Catholic Charities), which is a health insurance company that serves the
the neediest and most vulnerable to being uninsured. In person or
over-the-phone, I can pre-screen for eligibility and determine which
program an uninsured individual will be eligible for, such as Medicaid,
Family Health Plus or Child Health Plus. I am required by law, as a
Facilitated Enroller in the State of New York, to enroll an eligible
uninsured party in one of any of the health insurance companies offered
in the County the person resides.
Agape Dinner
The word "agape" means religious
meal shared as a sign of love and fellowship. In remembrance of
the last supper Christ shared with his apostles, St. Andrew's serves an
Agape Dinner following our Maundy Thursday Eucharist.
Traditionally our dinner consists of meatless soup, bread, olives,
cheese and wine. If you would like to prepare a soup for our
dinner, please contact Martha Iannacone at siannaco at nycap.rr.com or
439-9329.
Children's Easter Vigil
From the creation story to the Lord's resurrection, we
will tell the story of God's love for his people and celebrate the
Easter Eucharist. Join us on Saturday, April 3 at 11:00 am in Carmichael
Hall. A pot luck lunch will follow. Come help us celebrate the risen
Lord - ALLELUIA
Easter
Breakfast
St. Andrew's will continue its tradition of
offering an Easter breakfast between the two Easter morning services
again this year. A continental breakfast will be offered starting at 9
a.m. in Carmichael Hall and ending just before the 10 a.m. service.
Everyone is welcome! A sign-up sheet is posted in Carmichael Hall for
those who will bring muffins, other breakfast breads, or fruit. Bagels
and cream cheese will also be served along with juice, tea, and coffee.
Volunteers are also needed to help with serving the breakfast that
morning. Please see Sandra Shapard (sshapard at nycap.rr.com) if you can
help.
Update from LaHoye, Haiti
I spoke with
Fr. Milor recently. The situation all over Haiti is changing, even in
those places that were only moderately effected by the earthquake
itself. During the past month many families from Port-au-Prince have
been coming to LaHoye. They are coming with very little, essentially
what they can carry or tie onto the outside of a vehicle. Most people
come because they have some type of family there. Many are being taken
in by families, but it is putting a large strain on everyone's
resources. People are still coming, so we do not know how many more
there will be next month or the month after. Many people are still
living in tents because they are afraid to return to their homes. A
number of families, especially the families from Port-au-Prince do not
have shelter. Pere Milor said that food and tents are the biggest needs
for the community of LaHoye.
As of last week, St. Jacques school has added
50 more children bringing the total number to 315. The school needs
everything you would expect if you add 50 children, especially benches
for the children to sit on and school supplies. They also need more
money to pay the teachers. We have now found a secure method of wiring
money to Fr. Milor so we will be wiring some funds to assist with
immediate needs.
I will
be traveling to Haiti on April 20 and returning to home on April
29, part of a four person team from three different
organizations. We are keeping the team very small and diversified
so that we can use as few resources as possible and be able to travel in
one vehicle. I will spend several days at LaHoye and do my best
to work with them to determine how we can move
forward together, through this crisis and for the long term. -

Bookends
Needed!
The Gerber Library at
St. Andrew's is looking for donations of bookends. If you have any spare
bookends around the house, please bring them in to the Parish Office
and leave them on the counter. The Library will be holding an open house
after the 8 and 10 a.m. services on Palm Sunday - come in and see all
that there is to offer!
