Children are a very special part of our church family. They participate in almost all levels of worship at St. Andrew's. Our young people read lessons, sing in the choir, and serve as acolytes. Children may receive the Eucharist from the time of Baptism.
We also recognize that Sunday worship might be a challenge for some
youngsters, so we have created a children's corner, which is located
at a front corner of the Church with a good view of the altar.
Here they may look at books, color pictures, or sit in a rocker with a
parent. We also supply a Sunday packet, which includes appropriate
literature, puzzles, and pictures to help them through the mass.
While we try to make the Sunday liturgy a meaningful experience for
children,
we are also dedicated to offering a weekly Christian Education program
for all members of the church, especially our young people.
We currently have Sunday classes for children in grades K–9.
These classes meet at 9:30 a.m. and end just before the 10:30 service.
We are very conscious of the need to offer Christian Education to all
children in the parish; so we add classes as the need arises.
To augment the Sunday school curriculum, a children's sermon is given on the first Sunday of every month during the 10:30 service. We also have activities in the children's chapel several times throughout the year.
Our Adult Faith Formation program consists of a variety of activities designed to assist adults of the parish in their personal faith development. We proceed in the Anglican way using Scripture, Tradition, and Reason. By availing ourselves of these opportunities we hope to grow in understanding of our Christian faith. By becoming more fully formed as people of faith we can better live out our Baptismal Covenant.
This is a course based on the Bible readings we use in a three year cycle for our Eucharists. The class meets each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. except during the summer.
“Living the Good News” is customized for the Episcopal Church using the Revised Common Lectionary and connects our everyday stories with the Bible's timeless stories of our Christian faith — a celebration of God's unending love and grace.
“Episcopal 101” is a class of 5-6 weeks length
that explores the history, liturgy and faith of the Episcopal
Church. It is especially suited for
newcomers to the Episcopal Church and to
St. Andrew's. This class will be offered again in early 2008.
The Tuesday Night Book Group has recessed for the Fall. For Lent it is planned that the group will read St Benedict's Toolbox: Nuts and Bolts of Everyday Benedictine Living by Jane Tomaine and once again will meet on Tuesday evenings.
Sunday Adult Forums are held on first and third Sundays following the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist. The 2007-08 forums will explore the Millennium Development Goals and how we as Christians can live the Gospel by incorporating these into our missionary efforts. Listing for the forums scheduled each month may be found in The Network.
United in Christ's love, St. Andrew's welcomes all to feel God's grace through Service, Sharing and Worship.
